JON WOOD // Designer
I was born in Saitama, Japan, where thoughtful design was everywhere—whether navigating subway stations, weaving through towering department stores, or moving through Narita airport, it was nearly impossible to get lost. That clarity in wayfinding still inspires me today, even after more than a decade in Seattle.
My creative wiring has always pushed me to explore different mediums. I studied music production and drumming at Berklee College of Music, shot weddings and street photography, and immersed myself in denim culture and traditional sashiko stitching. Professionally, I spent seven years at Tableau Software as an Identity Access Management analyst, sharpening analytical and process-driven skills before shifting into design.
In 2021, I completed the User Interface certificate program at Seattle’s School of Visual Concepts (SVC), where I deepened my foundation in UX and UI principles. My capstone project led me to work with Sail Sand Point on a full web redesign, and soon after I was referred by SVC’s Creative Director to join Abbott Diabetes Care as a Product Designer, where I continue to grow today.
My approach to design is shaped by these experiences—rooted in Japanese simplicity, driven by curiosity, and focused on clarity and accessibility. I aim to solve complex problems with intuitive, human-centered solutions that balance innovation with elegance, scale with delight.
Some Kind words
“Jon's very self-motivated and has a natural eye for design and photography. He has that rare mix of left and right brain balance—with a background in IT and music, plus an active interest in photography, visual design and UI, his natural curiosity takes him in unique directions. He's thoughtful and well-spoken, has a good idea of what he wants to accomplish, but is also happy to take suggestions and collaborate. I think he'd be an asset to any organization in need of a creative and thoughtful designer.”

“ Every now and then one of our students emerges from the pack to set the standard for all the others. At SVC this past quarter, that student was Jonathan. He put together one of the most impressive capstone projects we've seen come out of our visual design program, and then he presented it with a level of polish and professionalism we don't often see. Looking at the notes I wrote as I was watching Jonathan present, these words really sum it all up: "This is a truly first-class solution. Your visual design is very sophisticated and professional, and you built a logical case for all your decisions. All in all, this is one of the best presentations and projects I’ve seen coming out of this program over the years. Congrats!" So, if you're looking to bring Jonathan onto your team, I would congratulate you, too, on a very smart decision.”
